Dear Reader,

Arnold Schönberg composed his piano concerto in 1942 during his Californian exile on the Pacific coast. It is considered a jewel of its genre in 20th-century music.

Today, the handwritten score of the concerto is part of the collection at the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna. The ravages of time have recently necessitated its comprehensive restoration. To mark its completion and Schönberg’s 150th birthday this year, we have now published this precious document for the first time in facsimile, wrapped in a pacific-blue cover.

You can read about this and numerous new Urtext editions in the following newsletter.

With very best wishes

Chinese Piano Music
Works of the 20th century
Editor, Fing., Introduction: Jingxian Xie
Urtext Edition, paperbound
HN 1453

This extraordinary edition includes a selection of piano works by Chinese composers from the second half of the 20th century. They are marked by Western influences while also reflecting the multifaceted folk music of China. They range from short character pieces to sonatinas, from simple song arrangements to multi-movement cycles. These works are of medium difficulty and offer a representative cross-section of a musical cosmos that remains largely unknown in Europe.
