Dear Reader,

For some he is the master of the organ, for others it is all about his chamber music. And then there are those for whom his choral and orchestral works are essential. This year we are celebrating the 200th anniversary of César Franck’s birth – one of the great nineteenth-century French composers. We have » Urtext editions of several of his works. And while it might only comprise a small selection, once again it is a case of quality over quantity!

In the following newsletter you will find an abundance of new Urtext editions from Bach to Strauss – all hot off the press.

Enjoy!

Something nice for teaching
Joseph Bodin de Boismortier
Six Sonatas op. 14 for two Violoncellos (Bassoons)
Editor: Tabea Umbreit, Fingering and bowing for Violoncello: Thomas Klein
Urtext Edition, paperbound

Many of his more than 100 works of the highly successful Boismortier are forgotten today. His Duo Sonatas for string or wind instruments, however, continue to enjoy great popularity, especially among teachers and their students. With these Six Sonatas op. 14, G. Henle Verlag is expanding its repertoire of technically-easy string chamber music, and also invites bassoonists to engage with these delightful French Baroque pieces.

Franck: Trois Pièces pour le Grand Orgue
Picture to yourself what Paris was like in 1878 … The World Exhibition is taking place with many different attractions, among which is the Palais du Trocadéro boasting an impressive four-manual organ – the first organ in a French concert hall! It is here that César Franck plays the “Trois Pièces pour le Grand Orgue” which he has composed a short time before.

You can get a sense of what the moment was like in this short clip of the organist Lukas Hasler playing the organ in the Herz-Jesu church in Graz, Austria.
